ioimage Chosen to Enhance Perimeter Security for Four New York and New Jersey Airports

4D Solutions will install ioimage’s intelligent video appliances as a key component of the airport security system

Herzliya, Israel, November 15th, 2006 – ioimage, the pioneer of intelligent video appliances designed for simplicity in installation and operation, announced today that it has been selected by 4D Security Solutions, Inc., to enhance perimeter security at JFK International, LaGuardia, Newark Liberty International and Teterboro airports.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) selected Raytheon as the prime contractor for the Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) project. Raytheon is leading an industry team, to include 4D and ioimage, in implementing a comprehensive system to protect the region’s airports, staff and patrons who use these critical facilities.

4D Security Solutions, Inc., one of the nation’s innovative homeland security systems providers and a major subsystem provider on this Raytheon company-led team effort, will design, integrate, test, and install the technology required to implement the PANYNJ’s integrated PIDS for the New York and New Jersey area’s four airports.

ioimage’s intelligent video solution will serve as a key component in the project’s high-tech perimeter and video surveillance security system, which also includes advanced sensors and multi-sensor fusion, assessment subsystems and facility communications subsystems for complete site management at the airports.

Designed for simplicity in installation and operation, ioimage units simultaneously detect perimeter intruders, suspicious baggage, illegally parked cars and removed items, while also featuring autonomous pan-tilt-zoom camera tracking. The units deliver multi-security task capabilities in a compact DSP-based hardware design that can be used stand-alone or over a network.

City Sync completes work at the Trafford Centre, Manchester UK

Challenge

To install a network of ANPR cameras and scan the registration numbers of every vehicle entering The Trafford Centre, thereby significantly reducing fraud, crime and offences committed against vehicles. Working in conjunction with the Greater Manchester Police the system should positively affect crime rates for the whole of the Trafford Borough.

Approach

Through systems integrators Civica, 16 ANPR cameras were installed in strategic locations across the Trafford Centre site, to identify vehicles stolen or wanted for a variety of crimes. All number plates are captured, read and, within seconds, checked against local and national police records, including the PNC – Police National Computer. The response to a captured plate is measured against the nature of the crime involved. The vehicle and its occupants are monitored directly by the centre’s security, working in conjunction with the Greater Manchester Police, so that all movements are recorded until officers arrive.

Results

The Trafford Centre was one of the first shopping centres in the UK to successfully introduce ANPR and the Greater Manchester Police have praised the shopping city as one of the safest in the UK. Over 100 arrests have been made with numerous successful prosecutions.

Crime rates associated with motor vehicles have now fallen by 67% when compared to the same time period between January and April 2003. Other figures show that incidents of fraud have fallen by 20%, the detection rate of offences have increased by 246% and over £31,000 worth of stolen vehicles have been recovered. Within the vicinity of the shopping centre positive effects have also been felt. The Trafford Borough’s crime figures have been reduced and Trafford has achieved the highest reduction in crime since April 2003 compared to any other area across Greater Manchester. Examples of successful prosecutions include:
  • A person wanted by the serious crime squad in West Yorkshire visited the Trafford Centre driving a £50,000 stolen BMW and in possession of multiple driving licenses and credit cards in different names. Currently awaiting Crown Court Sentence.
  • An individual wanted for a car crime was detected as he entered the site in an outstanding stolen vehicle. He received a five month custodial sentence and a driving ban.
  • A recently disqualified driver visited the site and received 180 days in a youth offender institute. (Information from Trafford Centre Website)

PIPS Technology is to supply Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to Siemens

PIPS Technology is to supply Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to Siemens, as part of a contract awarded by Transport for London (TfL) to provide an enforcement infrastructure for the western extension of the Central London Congestion Charging Scheme.

The contract worth over £5m to PIPS is for proven Spike+ cameras, already in use worldwide for applications such as road user charging and enforcement.
Spike+ is an ingenious combination of colour and infrared CCTV cameras, a computer, a mobile phone, digital video recorder and power cables integrated into one smaller, less disruptive and cost effective unit that operates 24 hours a day.

Spike+ has local storage capacity for thousands of vehicle records, including colour overviews. Data is fully encrypted and transmitted across the network, providing a significant reduction in communications costs.

A major advantage of Spike+ that sets it apart from its competitors is its ability to take pre and post event images in addition to contextual images. This technology can be utilised for, but not limited to, highway enforcement such as congestion charging zones, red light offenders and unauthorised use of bus lanes.

CoVi Technologies and ObjectVideo are selected for Autonomous Protection System Aboard Navy Ships
